Students from Guthrie Center High School (GCHS) visited QA Graphics, Ankeny interactive design firm, yesterday as part of a field trip to learn more about the News Tutor app and how QA Graphics worked with Skewed News Tutor to develop the app.
News Tutor is an educational mobile app, created for use in the classroom to help middle and high school students become more discerning news consumers. The app was designed to put users in the shoes of a journalist and help them learn what makes a good and accurate report. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors from GCHS accounting and Microsoft Office classes visited QA Graphics’ office for a Q & A session and to learn about the News Tutor app that the design firm created for client Colleen Bradford Krantz, founder of Skewed News Tutor.
As a former graduate of GCHS, the school was interested in hearing Krantz share her story on how the News Tutor app came to be, from the inception of the idea to budgeting and sales of the end product. Krantz spoke of her experience as a journalist, author and documentary filmmaker and described how she came up with the idea for News Tutor. She also discussed how as an entrepreneur she funded the development of the mobile app, as well as how she is currently marketing the end product. QA Graphics’ creative team discussed how they worked with Krantz to create this mobile app and make the dream a reality. The team described the design and development process and how they created a solution that met Krantz’s needs and stayed within her budget.
