Recent security issues involving Adobe® Flash® have led both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to disable the plug-in, resulting in limited access to Flash based graphics. This includes the Energy Efficiency Education Dashboards® (EEED), which utilize this technology. Flash has been a go-to standard for multimedia since the 1990s. These security flaws stem from the need to regularly update the plug-in. Users are more vulnerable to these risks when using outdated versions of Flash.
QA Graphics recommends that if you are currently using a dashboard (EEED), make sure that you are using the most up to date version of Flash, including the patch. If you are using Firefox, you will be prompted with security warnings about using the plug-in (click here for details). Chrome is set to disable the use of Flash in an upcoming version in September, therefore an alternate browser will be needed.
With continued uncertainty regarding browser support, QA Graphics is working on a long-term solution for the EEED using the latest in HTML5 technologies. More information will be coming as this release approaches.
